Takin' a Ride - Road and Parking Clear Now

16 | May | '22

Sing this report to Don Felder's "Taking a Ride" from the "Heavy Metal" Soundtrack.

Load the bikes up, let's cruise to the trail, leave the city far behind
You just might get wet, or at least you’ll sweat
Just meet your buddies right on time
Now if you're ready to ride with friends by your side
You know that the green lights are on
It's like you're riding away on some high octane
Every time you leave the trailhead.

Won't you take a ride, ride, ride, ride,
On full suspension
It's the only way that you can travel down that trail
Sa-tis-fied, fied, fied, fied, On full suspension
Baby won't you ride, Ride it until time erodes
Full suhh-spension

My oh my how the riders can fly
Once they start rollin' and leave you
You know you just can't lose, except for risks that you choose
You wait for it to finally release you
It's not a big surprise, you feel your temperature rise
You've gotta get your redline fever
'Cause there is just one cure that they know for sure
You just became a Full Suspension believer

Won't you take a ride, ride, ride, ride, on full suspension
It's the only way that you can travel down that trail
Sa-tis-fied, fied, fied, fied, on full suspension
Baby won't you ride, Ride it until time erodes
Full suhh-spension

Today's goal was just to verify the road conditions (now clear of snow and trees, plenty of POTHOLES) and the parking lot status (all clear, bathroom locked), along with clearing the trail up to the Meadow drainage crossing. I was expecting another avalanche debris pile at the drainage, like last year but to my surprise, no snow.

There is just a little erosion to cross or some trail enhancing if desired.

I cleared all the windfall up to the drainage but because of the heavy rain today, I stopped there and decided not to find the snowline higher up. I'll come back soon in better weather. I'm guessing snow starts at 3500' in shaded trail spots.

P.S.  I will be on the Whole Enchilada this coming Friday if all works out. Probably too early for "whole" though (Burro still snowy). ;-)

UPDATE: Whole Enchilada was great from Hazard County down to the river. Went OTB on Snotch and once on Porcupine Rim. Still a great epic adventure. I'll be back for Burro Pass which was too snow covered now. GPS track and pics of my route is here.
