President: Scott Edison
Scott's love for mountain biking began in 1989 when he purchased a Diamond Back Apex and explored the back roads of Pullman as a college freshman. Since then he has evolved as a rider and currently enjoys all kinds of riding including XC, light freeride, and park riding.
Scott's 15-year professional career in technology has included general management, sales, and business development experience with innovative technology companies. Over the course of the last decade Edison has been deeply involved with developing new business models around alternative distribution and wireless data products and digital goods.
Scott is currently Vice President of Strategic Partnerships for Oberon Media, the leading publisher and distributor of casual video games across Platforms including the PC, IPTV, and Mobile. During his tenure at Oberon Scott has developed the firm’s strategy for leveraging its strengths in casual games and quickly apply these strengths to the mobile medium.
Today Scott is responsible for key relationships with some of Oberon’s most important partners such as Microsoft. In addition to this role, Scott helped found a local startup called Movaya Wireless and owns/operates a corporate gift service focused on NW food and wine called Northwest Exclusive. Scott has an MBA from the University of Washington, and a BA in Business from Washington State University. In his personal life, Scott enjoys spending time with his wife Emily, daughter Elyse, and dog Fletch taking part in a number of outdoor sports including mountain biking, water skiing, and snowboarding.
Vice-President: Brian Crowley
Brian is the board’s resident 24 hour rider. He is also the President and CEO of BSQUARE Corporation, a technology firm in Bellevue. Brian’s current passion is the Paradise Valley Conservation Area in Snohomish County. Working with County officials and Evergreen volunteers, he has been working diligently for the reopening of Paradise.
Treasurer: Ken Meidell
Ken is the Vice President; Sales, Marketing & Product Development" for Cascade Designs, Inc., based in Seattle Washington. For over thirty-five years, Cascade Designs has been dedicated to making premier outdoor, recreational and medical rehabilitation products that enhance the active lifestyles of its customers. The company has built strong brands such as Therm-a-Rest®, MSR®, SealLine®, Platypus® and VARILITE® through an enduring commitment to innovation.
Since joining Cascade Designs in 2001 as Chief Information Officer, Ken was responsible for the successful integration of MSR into the Cascade Designs infrastructure and has successfully led the company’s adoption of e-commerce technologies, establishing Cascade Designs as an industry model for supply chain information integration. Applying the same vision and leadership to his current role, Ken leads global product development, sales and marketing teams, setting the strategy for the 35-year old company’s future in new standards of specialty outdoor product, sales and brand innovation and execution.
Prior to joining Cascade Designs, Ken worked as a Management Consultant for Ernst & Young LLP & Grant Thornton LLP, focusing on supply chain and consumer packaged goods.
Meidell is a founding member of the Outdoor Industry Association’s Business to Business Standards Group and is an active member in numerous environmental access and conservation organizations. In his free time he enjoys mountain biking, snowboarding, backpacking, sea kayaking and snowshoeing.
He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer and Information Science from the Ohio State University College of Engineering.
Secretary: Doug Walsh
Doug came to the Pacific Northwest in 2002 with little mountain biking experience outside of North Carolina and was immediately entranced by the beauty and ruggedness of the terrain here. Early rides at Tiger Mountain were humbling, but he persevered and thanks to the ride calendar and supporters of this organization, his skills and endurance blossomed. It wasn’t long before he was leading epic rides of his own and ultimately participating in high profile endurance events. Doug owes much of his love affair with mountain biking to the network of friends and training partners he met through Evergreen.
Doug believes that Evergreen has recently pushed the sport beyond several critical obstacles regarding land use and notoriety, only to be faced with an equally significant one within the organization. The recent turmoil made him realize just how much he cares about the work Evergreen does and he wants to be a part of moving it forward. Though he enjoys leading rides and attending the occasional work party or assisting with grant applications, he feels his creative leanings and skills as a professional writer and communicator could best be utilized as a member of the Board of Directors. He feels a strong desire to help steer Evergreen along its mission, while also helping other newcomers feel the magic that so captured him.
Members at Large:
Justin Vander Pol
Most recently, Justin served as the executive director of Evergreen/BBTC for five years. During this period, he developed strong relationships with land managers and interest groups, and helped to move Colonnade and Duthie forward. Justin enjoys all aspects of mountain biking, including epic cross country, close-in weeknight riding, freeride, downhill and park riding. Justin believes in providing opportunities for both the most expert riders, and also making mountain biking accessible for new riders and under-served communities.
Wes Meyer
Wes brings with him years of experience in the bicycle industry. He current works as the brand manager for Novara at REI, and has also worked for Raleigh/Diamondback. Based on his extensive experience, Wes is focused on building industry partnerships around Evergreen programs and projects.
Elizabeth Salvo, DPT:
Elizabeth started XC mountain biking in 2003 after one year of road racing. She raced the WIM series for several years and has raced the Indie Series since its inception. For the past two years, she has raced single-speed. She also races cyclocross. In addition to competing in the local racing series, she enjoys riding at Mt. Saint Helens, Galbraith, Grand Ridge and Gibbs Lake, to name a few favorites.
Elizabeth has been a member of Ragnarok Racing since 2003. They usually put on one mountain bike race and one cyclocross race a year as a fundraiser for the team. She has past fundraising experience as the Art Auction Chair for the Open Window School. She also started a new chapter and helped with fundraising for the Overlake Service League. Elizabeth has a Doctorate in Physical Therapy from the University of Washington. Her final graduate project was a study titled “Static and Dynamic Knee Angle Measurements in Competitive Male Cyclists.” Since graduation, she continues to write and research about cycling and cycling related injuries.
David Graves
David has been riding since the late 80s and is a longtime member of Evergreen/BBTC. He has a background in forestry and law, and brings a wide range of experience in environmental review and permitting, and project management in his current position at Seattle Parks & Recreation. David and Evergreen/BBTC have a long and distinguished history together. In 1994/95 he served as a BBTC advocate in support of Middle Fork Snoqualmie access and against the Redmond Watershed Trail closures. And most recently, David served as the Seattle Parks project manager on Colonnade.
