From Evergreen Trail Guide
If you have not edited anything on this site before, you might start at the basic editing tutorial.
Adding a Trail page is a little bit different from adding a regular page.
To add a trail, you do two things:
- Add a map marker
- Edit the trail's info page
When you add a map marker, the server will automatically create a trail info page to accompany it, and you'll be taken to the page to edit it. You can just hit "Save" to see the standard boilerplate content.
Adding a marker
To edit anything, you need to be registered and logged in. Be sure to register for a username and log in through the portal page.
To add a marker, use the Add a trailhead form.
You can find the latitude & longitude for the trailhead right on the form! Just use the map below the form, zoom & pan to the trailhead. Then click in the map, and you'll see the coordinates get filled in. (You can click again if you missed. :)
Make sure the coordinates are right and that you spell the name right--there is no form for editing markers yet. (That'll come soon. Maarten can do it by hand for now.)
Marker names should not use any characters that you can't use in a URL.
Editing the trail's page
When you've created the marker, you'll be given a link to the page for that trail. If you've lost it, you can always look it up on the main map on the front page. The first time you click the link, the wiki will load the default boilerplate text from a template. You can edit it a bit, or just save it to look at it first.
There are some ground rules.
Please understand that if you add information to the wiki, someone else may edit it or update it. That's the idea. If you disagree about what should be in the article, you can use the "discussion page" (also called "talk page") to exchange arguments. Each regular page has a matching discussion page; the link for it is always in a tab at the top.
If you want to sign something you wrote (e.g. on the discussion/talk page), use four tilde characters (~) in a row.
Improving the Trail Info page template
Drop Maarten a note if you want to improve the template.
